Home Dog Euthanasia in West Sussex
When you are preparing to say farewell to your dog, being at home can bring a sense of calm for everyone. Gentle Paws Farewell provides home dog euthanasia in West Sussex and Hampshire, offering a peaceful, unhurried visit led by an experienced vet, with clear guidance and gentle support throughout. Based in Chichester, we support families across West Sussex and Hampshire. Read on to find out what a home visit involves, what you can expect on the day and how aftercare choices work.

Why families choose a home visit for their dog
Dogs often feel safest with familiar people in familiar surroundings. A home visit can reduce the stress that some dogs experience when travelling, waiting, or entering a new environment. It can also give families privacy and time together, allowing you to move at a pace that feels right.
A calmer setting for anxious dogs
Some dogs become unsettled in the car, in busy waiting rooms, or around unfamiliar smells. At home, many dogs remain more relaxed, especially if they can stay on a favourite bed, in a quiet room, or close to the people they love.
Time to be together
Our appointments are up to 1 hour 30 minutes long. This gives you space to ask questions, spend time with your dog in their final moment, and feel ready before we proceed.

What happens during a home dog euthanasia visit
We keep the experience calm and supportive, with clear explanations throughout. Every family is different, so we adapt to you and your dog rather than following a rushed routine.
When we arrive
We will take time to meet you and your dog, help your dog feel settled, and talk through what to expect. You can ask any questions that you wish.
Moving at your pace
We follow your pace throughout the visit. Some families want quiet time first, others prefer to move through things steadily and calmly. We support you either way and only proceed when you feel ready.
Urgent appointments
Urgent appointments are often available. If you feel your dog may need support soon, contacting us early helps us arrange a suitable time and guide you calmly on next steps.
Optional pre euthanasia consultation
If you are unsure whether the time is right, you can book an optional pre euthanasia consultation. This is a 30 minute online or phone appointment where we discuss your dog’s situation, answer questions and guide you on what to consider next. If a home visit feels like the right option, we can help you arrange an appointment and explain what will happen.

Aftercare choices after saying farewell
After saying farewell, you choose what happens next. Some families prefer to keep their dog at home for home burial. Others choose cremation.
Cremation arrangements
If you choose cremation, we carefully transport your dog to a crematorium. Private cremation includes ashes returned where selected, whereas communal cremation does not include the return of ashes. If you would prefer to arrange aftercare yourself, that is also fine.
